MRS. BENJAMIN HOWARD
Minerva Shattuck was born at Galena, Illinois, Dec. 23, 1834. Her father, Geo. W. Shattuck moved his family to Waukon in 1849 and remained here for several years when he removed to Beetown, Wisconsin. While here in Waukon she became a member of the Baptist church in 1852. At Beetown she transferred her membership to the M.E. church.Miss Shattuck was married to Robert Stevenson, at Waukon, May 8th, 1856. They had two children, one of whom died in infancy, the other became Mrs. Watson Gibbs, who died when in her 20th year.
Mr. Stevenson was killed at the battle of Anteitem, Sept. 17, 1862.
Mrs. Stevenson was married to Benjamin Howard in March, 1867. Of their six children two died in infancy. The survivors are Mrs. Albert O. Knight, George H. and Frederick S. Howard all of Franklin township, and Mrs. Henry W. Hill of Minneapolis, Minn.
Mrs. Howard was a conscientious Christian, a loving mother and a good neighbor. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the aged husband who mourns a devoted wife.
After a short illness she passed to her rest April 23, 1912, aged 77 years, 4 months and 20 days. Funeral services were held at the Forest Mills church and burial at Smithfield, Rev. Van Nice conducting the services.

(77 Yrs. 4 mos. 20 days confirms this also) The Shattuck family had lived in the Galena area from 1827-1830 and again in 1839-1844. They then removed to Dubuque Co. until arriving in Allamakee Co.George C. Shattuck lived in Waukon from 1849-1870, visited in Missouri and then lived in Kansas until 1875.

Minerva lived in Glen Haven, Grant Co., in 1860 and at some point moved to Beetown, WI with her husband. Robert enlisted in the Union army from Beetown in 1862.
