Mrs. Cowell Funeral Held

Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas Cowell, 83, were held Wednesday afternoon, Oct 24, at 2 o'clock at the Schultz Funeral home with Rev. Donald R. Corrick in charge.

Burial was in the Smithfield cemetery.

As Anna Louise, she was born the daughter of Joseph and Eliza Newcomb, Aug. 11, 1868, at what was then Buckland in Linton township, Allamakee township. She died Monday, Oct. 22, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rufus Seitz. She had been ill for a number of months.

With the exception of one year spent in Colorado, she had lived in Allamakee county her entire life. She was the oldest member of the Methodist church at Volney having been affiliated with that church since 1903.

She was married to Thomas Cowell, May 4, 1885, at Prairie du Chien, Wis. Nine children were born to them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Jan. 14, 1951, two sons who died in infancy and a only sister, Mrs. Bertha Klees.

She is survived by seven children, Mrs. Rufus Seitz, Mrs. F.W. Klees. Mrs. Dell Rose, Dave, Joe, and Harley, all living in the Volney vicinity, and Mrs. Ben Kolowinski of Puyallup, Wash.; 37 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

Music at the service was provided by Mrs. Ben Frese Jr. and Mrs. George Martin who sang "Beyond The Sunset" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer." Mrs. Ivon J. Schultz accompanied at the piano.

Honary pallbearers were: D.C. Newcomb, C.J. Vaughn, Henry Kleas, Robert Ferguson, John Melcher, and J.H. Schmitt.

Pallbeaers were: Wesley Thias, Robert McNally, Kenneth Pufahl, Judson Campbell, William Schmidt and Les Nicholas.
