The death of Mrs. Jacob Kolowinski in her home at Volney last Thursday ended months of suffering for her. She was formerly Miss Leona McCarthy of Harmony, Minn. She married in March 1920 to Jacob Kolowinski and came to Allamakee County where they made their home.

The funeral was held Saturday afternoon in the Volney Methodist Church, the Rev. R.L. Van Nice officiating with burial in the Smithfield cemetery. She was 28 years old at the time of her death and leaves a little daughter, Lois, age 3 years and her husband to mourn her loss.

MRS. KOLOWINSKI

Leona McCarthy was born at Cresco, Iowa, Nov. 10, 1900, her mother died when she was six weeks old. From that time she was at home in the family of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lamphier, of Harmony, Minn. Her father, mother, one brother, three sisters preceded her in death.

She graduated from the Harmony High School in 1919 and attended the Mankato Business College the following fall for four months.

She was united in marriage with Jake Kolowinski Feb. 18, 1920 at the residence of Rev. Van Nice in Waukon. To them came a little girl who for two and one half years has been the joy of their hearts. Mrs. Kolowinski, has been sick for the last two years and confined to her bed for almost a year. She passed away Feb. 7, 1929 aged 28 years, two months and 27 days.

She leaves to mourn her loss her huusband, the dear little Lois, her sister, Mrs. P.B. Crawford of Battleberg, Okla., also Mr. and Mrs. Lamphier and their daughters Nellie and Maggie who mourn her as one of the family. She leaves many aunts, uncles and cousins.

By her own request Rev. Van Nice held funeral services in the church at Volney, Feb. 9, 1929 and the body was laid to rest in the Smithfield cemetery.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cowell, Mr. Thomas Lamphier, Mrs. R. Riceland, Mr. H. Flynn and Miss McCarthy, all of Harmony, Minn., and Mrs. Carl Rotzine, of Dayton, Michigan.
