Former Waukon Publisher Dies

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Aug. 15, at 2 o'clock at Martin Brothers Funeral home in Waukon for Leslie Kelsey Hull, 65, retired publisher of Waukon newspapers, who died of an apparent heart attack at his office, Wednesday, Aug. 12.

The Rev. Henry Robbins, Episcopal priest of Iowa Falls, conducted the services. Burial was in the Oakland cemetery at Waukon.

Mr. Hull was born July 4, 1905, in Bismarck, N.D., the son of Edgar and Florence Hull. He and LaVerne Keettel were married April 29, 1933, in Lyons, Neb.

Mr. Hull was a newspaperman for 12 years before coming to Waukon in 1945, and was publisher of Waukon newspapers from 1945 until his retirement in 1962. He was selected justice of the peace in Waukon in 1968 and won nomination of that office again in this year's primary election.

He was past president of the Iowa Press Association, and at the time of his death was serving as a member of Waukon's parkboard. He also served as excutive secretary of the Waukon Chamber of Commerce for a time after his retirement.

Mr. Hull was a member of the Elks and Masonic lodges and was a Shriner. He also was a member of the Episcopal men of Iowa and of Signa Delta Chi, professional journalism fraternity.

He was educated in the Rio, Wis., High School of Science at Whapeton, and the University of Wisconsin.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, and twin sons, Thomas and John Mark.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. David D (Sarah) Hill of St. Petersburg, Fla., two grandchildren, Brian and Peter Hill; three brothers, Louis of Waukon, Lawrence of Valley City, N.D., and Lynn of Villisca; two sisters, Mrs. Herman Wulfsberg of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Frank Madsen of Dickinson, N.D.

Casketbearers were: Steve Wiedner, Martin Hayes, Dr. John Cox, Marcus Smith, William Huffman, Michael Osterholm and George Haler.
