A.T. NIERLING, WELL KNOWN WAUKON MAN, DIES

Anton T. Nierling, 65, manager of the new Grand Hotel at Waukon died suddenly on a road near the George Winkie farm home, in Ludlow Township, at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. A heart attack due to exhaustion is believed to have caused his death.

Nierling was driving into the country on business when his automobile stalled out, did considerable shoveling and after this failed he started to the Winke home to have the latter pull him out with a team of horses. He dropped dead in front of the Winkie home.

Mr. Nierling was born in French Creek Township Feb. 8, 1872. He was one of the organizers of the First National Bank, where for many years he was cashier. Later he was connected with the People's National Bank, of recent years was associated with the Grand Hotel.

He was married Feb. 3, 1896, to Winnie Taylor. Three children survive him, Dr. Paul Nierling, Kansas City, Miss Gertrude, New York City, and Mrs. Merle Barthell, Waukon. He is also survived by a brother, Will, in Algona.
