Contributor: Connie Ellis(transcriber)Geneva Myrtle Gilson, daughter of Albert and Minnie (Winters) Gilson, was born January 22, 1920 in Allamakee County, Iowa near Volney, Iowa. She passed away November 4, 1984 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville, Iowa. She was buried in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
Geneva was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Volney. She attended the Volney Country School and Waukon High School. On September 29, 1937 she was married to Laraldo Fred Wahls. They were the parents of three children. They farmed in the Monona, Castalia, and Postville areas, moving to their present farm in 1952. Besides caring for her family, Geneva loved to go fishing, work in her garden,and raise plants. She was a member of the St.Paul Lutheran Church, the LCW, and the West Post Project Club.
For the past eight years she had fought a hard and difficult battle with her illness, not giving in to it even in her last moments.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Laraldo; their son Allen and his wife Ellen of Postville; two daughters Luann (Harold) Muller of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Donna (Nyle) Zieman of Postville; seven grandchildren: Tim, Kim, Susan, and Sara Wahls and Charmion, Sherman, and Lanny Zieman; and four sisters: Frances Miene of Luana, Iowa, Lois (Gaylord) Moose of Monona, Iowa, Alice (Francis) Rooney of Steuben, Wisconsin, and Hazel (George) Beisker of Littleton, Colorado.
