This community was shocked Friday morning to hear of the death of Johnnie Strafford, but it was not expected for he has been a great sufferer for the past three years. He was 17 years old and was born and raised in this vicinity. All who knew him will be grieved to learn of his early death as he was a young man of even temperment, always sociable and agreeable with his friends, and of excellant character. He leaves to mourn his death; a father and mother, three sisters and three brothers. The funeral was held at the M.E. church in Volney Sunday afternoon, Rev. Dwello officiating, and the body was laid to rest in the Smithfield cemetery.
