William E. Howes, lifelong resident of Allamakee county, died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leonard Baxter of Union Prairie township, from heart trouble. He was born in French Creek township, Oct. 13, 1869. He was married to Nora Regan in 1894. She died in 1895. In 1903 Mr. Howes was married to Margaret Cunningham. She died several years ago. They were parents of five children, Mrs. Leonard Baxter of Union Prairie township, T.E. Howes of Independence, Ray Howes of Lycurgus, Mrs. Maurice Shegrud of Dubuque, and Mrs. James Kirkbride of Decorah, who survive him. There are also three brothers and sisters, John Howes of Waukon, Ed Howes of Denver, Colo., Albert and Mrs. Maurice Regan of Lycurgus, Mrs. Thomas Waters of New Albin, Mrs. Arthur Doherty of St. Paul. Funeral services were held Thursday at St. Patrick's church with burial in Mount Olivet cemetery.
