Harpers Ferry, Ia., Sept. 15 - Funeral services were held Tuesday for Michael Collins, pioneer, who died Saturday after a short illness.

Mr. Collins was born in Kentucky 72 years ago, coming to Allamakee county with his parents when but a child and settling on the farm which has since been his home.

On April 11, 1882, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Hawes and to this union seven children were born, Mary, William, Timothy, Josephine, Leo, Emmet and John; the latter two and his wife preceding him in death. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary O'Donnell, of Harpers Ferry, Ia.

The funeral, one of the largest ever held in this community, was held from the family home on Tuesday morning when a requiem mass was read in St. Ann's church in Harpers Ferry by Rev. M.A. Kerper, of Dubuque, Rev. Morris Nolan preaching the sermon and reading the prayers at the grave.

Interment was made in Wexford cemetery beside his wife and children.
