WILLIAM H. FISCHER 1865-1925
William H. Fisher [Fischer] was born in Schessinghausen Province, Hanover, Germany, November 28, 1865. He was baptized in infancy and later as a youth, and was confirmed in the year 1880. In 1883, he, with his parents immigrated to America, and settled at Garnavillo, Iowa. Shortly after he moved to Postville, where he worked on a farm for eighteen years. On the 15th of June, 1888, he was united in marriage to Louisa Schroeder. This union was visibly blessed by God, inasmuch as he vouchsafed unto them twelve children, of whom three preceded their father in death.
After residing in Postville for nine years the family moved to Castalia, where the deceased had since lived. On April 3, 1923, his wife also preceded him in death.
On May 12, [1925] of this year he became ill and after receiving no relief he journeyed to New Hampton, where he underwent an operation. After lingering on for a few days he answered God's summons on Saturday morning, June 20th, [1925] at the age of 59 years, six month and 22 days.
Those left to mourn his death are five sons -- William, Fred and Emil of Milwaukee; Henry and Martin of Castalia; and four daughters -- Mrs. Lena Schave of Nora Springs; Mrs. Emma Lundt, Mrs. Louise Schweinefus and Esther Fischer of Castalia. Also two sisters, Mrs. Diedrich Nuehring of Postville and Mrs. E. C. Buchels of Garner and eleven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Lutheran church at Castalia, Rev. A. A. Hoferer officiating. Interment was made in the Postville cemetery.
