Military Funeral is Held for Martin C. Fischer
Funeral services were held here last Wednesday forenoon in the Schutte funeral home for Martin C. Fischer, 34, who passed away in Janesville, Wis., May 27, 1946. Interment was in Postville cemetery. The Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig officiated.
Arthur F. Brandt Post American legion, furnished a military escort at the funeral and also had charge of the graveside service.
Mr. Fischer was born June 17, 1912, as the son of William and Louise Schroeder Fischer at Castalia and spent his boyhood in that community.
He entered the service of his country in the navy in July 1943 and served as a Machinists Mate First Class in the Amphibious force in the South Pacific theater. He was a member of the Lutheran church and also held membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by three brothers, William and Emil Fischer of Janesville, Wis., Henry Fischer of Castalia, three sisters, Mrs. Harley Fuller of Janesville, Mrs. William Schave of Castalia and Mrs. George Lundt of Clarksville, and by a number of nephews and his nieces.
His parents, one sister, Mrs. Esther Updegraff, and two brothers, Edwin and Fred Fischer, preceded him in death.

Submitter notes: Martin was married to Alta Lucille (Sphar) Kneeskern, daughter of John and Sarah (McHoes) Sphar on July 28, 1939. She died January 8, 1970. Martin and Alta had no children. Alta had a son, Jack Kneeskern, with her first husband, Frank Kneeskern.
