William J. Bresnahan, a well known and respected citizen of Grant township, passed away Monday morning at five o'clock after a lingering illness. He was 37 years of age and the cause of death was cancer.

Mr. Bresnahan was one of the progressive and substantial farmers of Grant township, and he held the friendship of a large circle of acquaintances who will regret his early death.

He was born March 24, 1862, in Allamakee county, Ia., and came to Sherman county in 1886 where he has since made his home.

He was married January 8, 1896, to Miss Peach Dooling, who survives him together with one child. He is survived by father, mother, four brothers and one sister.

The funeral was held at the Catholic church, of which deceased was a member Tuesday at 11 o'clock, Father Leydecker conducting the services. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery.

A friend of the family contributed the following on the death of Mr. Bresnahan:

Jesus while our hearts are bleeding,
O'er the spoils that death has cast.
We would at this solemn watching calmly say,
"Thy will be done."
Tho' cast downward, not forsaken,
Tho' afflicted not alone,
"Thou has given, thou hast taken,"
Blessed Lord "Thy will be done."
