An Old Settler GoneJohn W. Foster, for fifty years a resident of this city and county, died on February 10th, at his home in Center, near Lansing, Iowa, where he settled six years ago. His age was about 75 years, and he was a native of New Jersey.

Died on Tuesday, the 11th of February, 1879, of strangulated hernia, after a sickness of ten days, at his home in Centre Township, Allemakee county, Iowa, John W. Foster, aged 74 years, 6 months and 20 days. He was well known in this city and county, where he resided for 47 years. He held the office of Magistrate for several years in Thompson. He was a native of New Jersey and settled in Galena in the year 1825, where his children were all born. The deceased wife of Mr. Samuel Taylor, of this city, was one of them. He leaves a widow, four sons and two daughters. He removed from Warren, in this county, to Lansing, Iowa, in the year 1872. He was a kind husband and father, and a good neighbor.-source - unknown, likely from a Galena, Ill. newspaper
