Lifelong Resident of Community, Passes
Mrs. Ernest Groth, 79, a resident of this community all of her lifetime, excepting for five years spent in Minnesota, passed away at her home in this city last Wednesday after only a brief illness. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the family home and at two o'clock in St. Paul's Lutheran church. The Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig officiating and interment was in the cemetery at Frankville.
Augusta Marie Kempke was born as the daughter of John and Marie Sass Kempke February 1, 1868, on the family farm a short distance south of Postville. For a while the family lived on the place in Post township where Emmett Dreier now lives.
She was married to Ernest Groth September 20, 1894, and the family home was established in Post township where she lived until two years ago when she moved to Postville, and excepting for five years, from 1913 to 1918, when the family lived in Minnesota.
Mrs. Groth was the mother of seven children, all of whom survive. They are Harold and Fred Groth of Postville, Luther Groth of Spring Grove, Minn., Walter Groth of Minneapolis, Minn., Arthur Groth of Ortonville, Minn., Mrs. Gaylord (Ruth) Archer of Muscatine, and Esther Groth of Sioux City. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren. Mr. Groth passed away ten years ago.
