Janette Margret Larson, 98 of Thornton Manor, Lansing, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, January 5. 2004. She was born November 5, 1905 in Grand Rapids, WI to John and Mable (Worby) Larson. She was the third of seven children.

Janette was home schooled by her mother until a severe case of scarlet fever caused the loss of sight in one eye thus ending her formal education. She became her fathers "right hand man" on the farm, doing chores and working in the field. She was competent and confident in handling her responsibilities and the farm animals she loved. After the family moved from the farm to Stevens Point, she was a dedicated employee of Frost Fish and Tackle factory where she tied flies until retiring in 1970. She was an enthusiastic gardener and loved outside work, nothing was too physical for her. She enjoyed the friendship of her sisters and their husbands, and the five girls made numerous trips to all parts of the U.S. She was a kind and considerate "Aunt Net" to all her nieces and nephews, even grandnieces and grandnephews. She played with them and took them on helicopter, carnival, and snowmobile rides as a special treat. She loved houseboating and fishing and the week long trips on the Mississippi. She enjoyed working with brother-in-laws, Al Langford and Harold Verdon as they tended their clamming commercial fishing gear.

Janette was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Stevens Point, and later Plover United Methodist Church. She moved to Lansing and Thornton manor in 1998 as her health failed. She was a happy and appreciative resident and loved her caregivers dearly. Her mischievous smile and coaxing index finger tickled the minds of all she encountered. She brightened the day and will be missed by young and old alike.

She is survived by one sister, Minerva Strong of Lansing and 11 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Gerald and Carl Larson of Stevens Point and three sisters, De Elda (Guile) Johnson of Antigo, WI and Sfa Lanford and Grace Verdon of Lansing.

A "celebration of life" service was held at United Methodist Church, Lansing on Wednesday, January 7. Burial was Friday, January 9 in Riverside Cemetery, Iola, WI.

The family appreciates the assistance from Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home of Lansing.
