Ralph A. Hammel was born near Postville on January 24, 1882, and died at his home in Milwaukee, Wis., on Sept. 14, 1928, at the age of 46 years and eight months.

He was the eldest son of John and Caroline Hammel. He grew to manhood on his father's farm near Bethel church and was always a steady and industrious young man. Later he went to Milwaukee, where he has been employed as an express driver. Here he met and was married to Miss Mary Acker in October 1905. This union was blessed by three sons, Lloyd 19, Raymond 15 and Erwin 6, who with their mother and the following named brothers and sisters are left to mourn his loss: Mrs. Stella Cook, Mrs. Lee Folsom, Leonard, Earl, Mrs. LaRue Webster, Mrs. Sherman Lawson and Mrs. Frank Lawson of Postville; Mrs. Francis McDonald of Mason City, Mrs. Andrew Stockman and Charley Hammel of Milwaukee. Besides these he leaves a number of other relatives and many friends in and around Postville and Milwaukee.

He was a kind and loving husband, father and brother and was respected by all who knew him.

His funeral was held at St. Patrick's church in Milwaukee on Sept. 17, 1928, at which all of his brothers and sisters were present.
