Mabel Rosella Schilling was born February 22, 1912, in Lansing, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Mattie (Anderson) Beck. She attended Lansing Public Schools and worked for a time at the Button Factory in Lansing.

On May 9, 1934, she married John Michael Schilling in Freeport, Ill. They moved to Waukon where she has lived ever since. Mabel spent her married life as a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, working crossword puzzles, and raising flowers. She was a devoted cat lover, having had several for pets, and also took a special interest in her nieces and nephews.

Mabel died Friday, January 23, 2004, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in La Crosse, Wis., at the age of 91.

Survivors include a son, Richard of Waukon, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, who died in 1969; five brothers, Walter, Theodore, John, Charles, and William Beck; and a sister, Florence Strub.

Family graveside services will be held at a later date. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon handled arrangements.
