Marcella Collins, age 89, of Waukon, died Thursday, January 15, 2004, at Good Samaritan Center, Waukon. Funeral services were held January 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lycurgus, with Father Knipper, Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg, and Father Jerry Blake officiating. Burial was in Hanover. Hanson Funeral Home, Waukon, was in charge of arrangements.

Marcella was born March 31, 1914, in Lansing, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Nora (Pierce) Hammel.

On January 14, 1947, she married John P. Collins. Marcella was a farm wife and homemaker and lived in the Lansing/Waukon area her entire life.

Marcella was a member of St. Mary's Lycurgus and was active in the Rosary Society and was also a member of the Upper Iowa Saddle Club.

Survivors include four children, James (Wanda) Collins of Knoxville, Iowa, Mary (Gary) Johnson of Postville, Tom Collins of Waukon, and John (Von) Collins of Waukon; nine grandchildren, Marcella Collins of Knoxville, James "Pat" (Sarah) Collins of Indianola, Kristine (Eric) Stone of Waukon, Gary (Jenny Duvel) Johnson of Waukon, Steven (Amy) Johnson of Lansing, Karen (Brian) Cota of Waukon, Amy (Chad) Rethwisch of Jacksonville, N.C., Sarah Collins, stationed with the U.S. Army in Korea, and Jason Collins, Waukon; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 siblings, Clair (Olive) Hammel, Ralph Hammel of Decorah, and Ruth Burke of Lansing; and two sisters-in-law, Marie Perry of Dubuque and Anna Collins of Stillwater.

Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, John, on May 26, 1980; her parents, Joseph and Nora Hammel; siblings Paul Hammel, Francis Hammel, Robert Hammel, and Donald Hammel; sisters-in-law Addie Hammel, Mary Hammel, and Stella Hammel; brothers-in-law Robert Collins, Robert Perry, and Charles Burke; brothers and sisters-in-law Elmer and Dolly Collins and James "Doc" and Alice Collins; and an infant sister, Mary.

Honorary casketbearers were Marcella's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casketbearers were James "Pat" Collins, Gary Johnson, Steven Johnson, Jason Collins, Danial Burke, and Charles Hammel.
