LeRoy J. Mettille, 77, of rural Waterville, died December 22 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held December 27, St. Pius at Cherry Mound Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry, with Fr. Bernard Grady and Fr. Louis Trzil officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
LeRoy Joseph Mettille was born January 12, 1922 on the rural Harpers Ferry farm of his parents, John and Mary (McCormick) Mettille. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Pius at Cherry Mound Catholic Church and attended the rural "Eagan" school. On May 14, 1946 he married Mary Kathleen Finnegan at St. Mary's Catholic Church in McGregor. They farmed together in rural Waterville on the family Century Farm. He milked, raised hogs and beef and grew crops until his retirement in 1983.
LeRoy was a member of the St. Pius at Cherry Mound Rosary Society and the Waterville Senior Citizens, as well as a former 4-H leader.
LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Kathleen of Waterville, sons John (Leona), Caldwell, ID and Butch (Debbie), North Pole, AR, daughters Linda Mettille of Waterville, Pat (John) Moore, Decorah, and Deb (Tony) Schulte, Spring Grove, MN, 14 grandchildren, seven great-children and two brothers, Charles (Theresa) and Edward (Lil), both of Baltimore, MD.
Casketbearers were Jim and Ralph Mettille, Allan Grady, Donald McCormick, LeRoy Buttcher and James Eagan.
Arrangements were handled by the Martin Funeral Home of Waukon.
