Mrs. Dora Heins, second oldest resident of Postville, passed away suddenly Wednesday afternoon at 5:25 o'clock following an illness of two weeks. Mrs. Heins' death occurred on the eve of her 89th birthday anniversary. Although she had not been feeling well, she was making plans to spend an enjoyable day with many friends and relatives who were coming to Postville to spend the day.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday afternoon in the Heins home and the Lutheran church. The Rev. F. R. Ludwig officiated, with burial in Postville cemetery.
Pallbearers were the following: Fred Martins of Victor, Arthur Herman of near Luana, Clarence Schnuelle, Leo Heins, Roy Moon and Harlan Heins.
As Miss Anna Catherina Dorathea Schultz, she was born May 30, 1851, in Ludvig-Lust, province of Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Schultz. After the death of her father she came to the United States in 1869 with her mother, four brothers, John, Fred, William and Charles, and sister, Marie. They located in the vicinity of Garnavillo.
On July 12, 1872, she was married in St. Paul's Lutheran church in Postville to Fred Heins, following which they lived on their farm south of Postville. A few years later they moved to their farm north of town. After the death of her husband in 1900 she moved to Postville where she spent the remaining years of her life.
She was a charter member of the Lutheran Ladies' Aid Society in Postville and a life long member of the Lutheran Church here.
Mrs. Heins is survived by a son, Fred, a daughter, (Elizabeth) Mrs. Simon Schnuelle, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Edward L. Burdick.
