Gladys Klocke, 83, of Waukon, died Feb. 19 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb 23, 11:00 a.m., at Martin Funeral Home of Waukon, with Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call at Martin Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Gladys was born July 27, 1916, the daughter of Carl and Martha (Goeke) Shafer, on her parent's farm in Ludlow Township. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. Gladys attended the Ludlow #8 rural school. On April 1, 1939, she married Charles H. Klocke in West Union. Gladys and Charles farmed in Ludlow township. She also worked at the Red Owl food store cafeteria in Waukon as a cook, preparing salads and pies. She lived in Ludlow Township all her life until 1978, when she moved to Waukon.
She was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and involved with Ladies Aid. Gladys enjoyed growing flowers, doing crafts, sewing, cooking, fishing, playing cards, dancing to slow music and spending time with her grandchildren.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; a sister, Viola Leubka; and a brother, Rueben Shafer. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Selberg Adam, Waukon; a son, Roger (Delores) Klocke, Waterloo; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and a sister, Ruth Shafer of Waukon.
Pallbearers were Craig Selberg, Wayne Selberg, Gale Klocke, Glen Klocke, Gary Mundfrom and Corey Mundfrom.
