A telegram was received in this city yesterday afternoon announcing the death of Mr. John Murray, of New Albin, and for years a resident of this city. Mr. Murray's brother Thomas, the well known expressman of this city, received a message on Monday last announcing that his brother was lying seriously ill at Waukon, at which place he had been attending court. Mr. Murray left at once for his brother's bedside and was with him in his last hours.

Mr. John Murray was a native of County Fermanagh, Ireland, and came to Dubuque about thirty-six years ago. He was 71 years of age. He resided here for several years and was highly esteemed by those who knew him.

For the past eighteen years he has resided upon a farm near New Albin, where he was regarded as one of the best citizens and an honest, upright man. He died fortified by the last rites of the Catholic church, of which he was a lifelong member.

The remains will be brought to this city on the 4 o'clock train this afternoon. Mr. Murray had no children and his wife died about two years ago. The funeral will take place from the residence of Mr. Thomas Murray, on Almond street, Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. Interment at Key West.
