At a few minutes past 7 o'clock last evening Thomas Murray, one of the most familiar characters in the city and a veteran drayman, expired suddenly.

On Thursday last Mr. Murray left for Waukon in response to a telegram announcing the death of his brother. He brought the remains to Dubuque and the funeral took place on Saturday morning and was largely attended.

Little did the friends dream that Thomas was so soon to follow his brother to the home beyond the grave. He was completely prostrated with grief over the death of his brother, and for the past few days was compelled to take to his bed. His final illness was superinduced by a severe cold and not until yesterday morning did his family and friends, have grave doubts of his recovery.

Mr. Murray resided with his family for years on Almond street, north of West Locust, and was known by almost every man, woman and child in the city. For twenty-five years he followed the business of teaming, and was one of those familiar characters that might properly be termed a "landmark" in the city's history. Of an honest open hearted disposition he was always greeted with a cheering word.

He was a native of Ireland, and for the little green isle it was his pride to raise his voice and might that her wrongs may be righted. Mr. Murray enjoyed the respect due to men who earn it by their honest upright course.

He was 65 years of age and leaves a wife and family.
