Rites For Gilman Hanson Are Tuesday
Funeral services were set for Tuesday, May 7 at 1:30 p.m. from St. John's Lutheran church in Waukon for Gilman Hanson, 91, who died Sunday in the Good Samaritan center in Waukon.
The Rev. Marilyn Hansing will officiate and burial will be in Oakland cemetery. Marlin and Norman Hanson, Harold Peterson, Andrew and Melvin Smedsrud and Barthell Bakkum will be pallbearers. Martin funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hanson was born Nov. 29, 1882 in Makee township of Allamakee county. He was a son of Gilbert and Andrine Taeringen Hanson. He attended the local schools and Waukon business college. He was employed as a grocer in Waukon for 35 years. He served on a church board and also served on the Waukon school board.
Survivors are three daughters, Harriet of Rochester, Minn., Mrs. Robert (Esther) Peters of Cedar Falls and Mrs. Merle (Florence) Schlake of Postville. Eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive. A daughter Arleen and four brothers, John, Hans, Albert and Nick, and three sisters, Hannah, Belle and Nettie, preceded him in death.
