ROBERT LELAND MARTINDALE
Robert Leland Martindale, son of Benjamin and Gunda (Johnson) Martindale, was born August 12, 1912 at Scenic, South Dakota. He passed away Wednesday, May 25, 1988 at Postville, Iowa.
He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in St. John Lutheran Church at Waukon, Iowa. He was graduated from Waukon High School in 1930. Robert served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On September 4, 1946 he was married to Gerene Christine Schultz in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville. To this union two sons were born.
Bob had been employed at Falb Motor Company in Postville. For about 18 years he had been the Superintendent of Public Works for the city of Postville.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helene (Mrs. A. Burr Cook). Surviving are his wife, Gerene, two sons, Ben and his wife, Astrid, of Wadsworth, Illinois, and Alan and his wife, Lisa, of Champaign, Illinois, four grandchildren, Katie, Justin, and Briana Martindale and Meghan Martindale, one brother Donald and his wife, Iva, of Oelwein, and a brother-in-law, A. Burr Cook, of Postville.
Robert had been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since 1947, a member of Brotherly Love Lodge No. 204, and the Postville Volunteer Fire Department.
