ORVEL C. MEYER 1916-1983

Memorial services for Orvel C. Meyer, 76, were held September 18 at Lake Nokomis Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis, MN.

Orvel Meyer, son of August and Lena (Halverson) Meyer was born July 9, 1916 in Castalia. He died September 15, 1983 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Hospice in St. Paul, MN after a short illness. The first years of his life were spent on the family farm.

He was married to Miriam Haining of Staples, MN November 20, 1938. To this union five children were born. They farmed in the Bloomfield Township area until 1946 when they moved to Postville where he worked as a carpenter with Otto Sander. In 1954 they moved to Minneapolis, MN where he was a carpenter until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Esther Schultz and Vera Buddenberg, Castalia and one brother, Walter.

Surviving are his wife, Miriam, two sons, James R., Princeton, WV and John A., Pepin, WI; three daughters, Linda M. Nichols, Agoura, CA, Ellen L. Young, Placentia, CA and Marcia Beals, Pennsville, NJ. Also surviving are one brother, Vernon, Clermont, one sister, Inez Schoonmaker, Waterloo and 11 grandchildren.
