Wm. Balzell, the man who murdered Mrs. Geddes in cold blood in the Yellow River country in Allamakee county a months{sic} ago, committed suicide while in jail in Waukon. It is reported that he saved the cords with which packages which were sent to him were tied, and securing a mop-stick, made a noose around his neck and twisted it with the mop-stick until he strangled. Allamakee county has thus been saved a large bill of expense for court costs, and the county is rid of a bad character.
