Surrounded by her loving family, Genevieve Mary Mohn, 89, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in LaCrosse, WI from complications of Alzheimer’s. Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, February 4 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Wexford, with Fr. Donald Hawes as celebrant and Msgr. Cletus Hawes and Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg as concelebrants. Interment was at the church cemetery.

Genevieve Mary Kernan was born July 29, 1922 at Waukon. She was the daughter of Joseph and Ellen Cota Kernan. She married Thomas H. Mohn February 17, 1942 at Wexford. Tom died August 30, 1978, and she then married James Connor May 5, 2001.

At an early age, Genevieve taught country school in Lafayette Township. She was a devoted and dedicated wife and mother. She helped in the farming and commercial fishing business of her families where she made and repaired the fishing nets.

She was an active church member, serving as a CCD instructor, was a member of the Rosary Society, served as rectory housekeeper, cleaned the church and assisted in making the floral arrangements for the altar. Genevieve enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, crossword puzzles, music, gardening and growing flowers and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by 11 children, Ralph (Diane) Mohn of Harpers Ferry, Cyril (Patty) Mohn of Lansing, Carolyn (Mike) Sanders of Palo, Leon (Bonnie) Mohn of Lansing, Leonita Newman of Daleville, AL, Roger (Mary Jo) Mohn of Lansing, Maureen (Guadalupe) Perez of San Antonio, TX, Bernice (Ray) Mohn of Norwalk, Genette (Daniel) Halverson of Lansing, Marjory (Tony) Castellano of Grimes, and Barbara (Scott) Kaiser of Monona, WI; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Mohn of Lansing; Glen Connor and his family; 33 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Francis (Leonette) Kernan of Lansing, Alice Conway of Harpers Ferry and Marguerite Schulte of Waukon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; her son, Thomas; four siblings, Leo Kernan, Marcella McGuire, Sister Mary Cyrilla Kernan and Gerald Kernan; and three grandchildren, Jessica Hogendorn, Aaron Mohn and Thomas Mohn.

Memorials may be given in Genevieve’s name to Alzheimer’s research.
