Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 at the Schutte Funeral Home and at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church for John F. Palas, 90, who passed away at his home September 20, 1950. The rites were in charge of Rev. F. R. Ludwig and burial was at Postville cemetery with Masonic rites at the grave.

John Frederick Palas, son of John Palas and Caroline Prust Palas, was born December 9, 1859 in Farmersburg township, Clayton county and departed this life on September 20, 1950, at his home in Postville, aged 90 years.

Mr. Palas was united in marriage with Helene Lenth of Farmersburg, at Farmersburg, on February 19, 1885. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive the passing of their father.

Mr. Palas was practically a lifelong resident of this community. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Palas spent one year at Waco, Texas. With this single exception he has spent his life in this vicinity. The town of Postville was his home since 1906. Mr. Palas was a faithful and honored member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Postville with which he has been associated since 1887. He served the congregation as a member of the church council and was for a time its treasurer for benevolence.

He was also a member of the St. Paul's Brotherhood. Fraternally, he was a member of Brotherly Love Lodge No. 204, Unity Chapter No. 62, Landridge Commandery of West Union and El Kahir Temple of Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the Eastern Star and Brotherly Love Lodge for 50 years.

Left to mourn his passing are his widow; three children, two daughters, Mrs. Nora McNeil and Vera Palas of Postville, and one son, John A. Palas, of Postville; four sisters: Mrs. Bertha Klinge, Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Ida Klinge, Delavan, Wisconsin, Mrs. Louise McMonagel, Delavan, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Ella Schultz, Los Angeles, California; five brothers: Fred, Luana, Louis, Elkader, Herman, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Arthur, Postville, and Ben, Monona; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.

Mr. Palas was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Mrs. Olga Sebastian; two brothers: William and Henry; and three sisters, Mary, Lena and Anna.
