Rites Held For Arthur Palas, An Attorney.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 23, 1967, 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville for Arthur J. Palas, who passed away November 23, 1967 at his home here. The Rev. Richard B. Housman was in charge of the rites; burial was in Postville cemetery.
Arthur Julius Palas, the son of John and Caroline Volz Palas, was born on May 19, 1881, at Clayton Center, Iowa. He was baptized into the Christian faith August, 1881, and was confirmed March 18, 1894, by Rev. F. W. Seifert.
He graduated from Drake University Des Moines, in 1907, and received a law degree from Texas State University, Austin, in 1908. He practiced as an attorney in Elkader, Des Moines, and Postville over a period of more than 50 years.
In 1911 he was united in marriage with Anna Rehmann of Des Moines. She preceded him in death, November, 1934. On January 6, 1936, he was united in marriage with Elsa Fleig of Des Moines.
He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville; a member of the Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis Club, and the Iowa Ornithologists Union.
He died November 23, 1967, at the age of 86. Surviving besides his wife are a son, Fritz of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and daughter, Mrs. Eugene Nuss of Milledgeville, Georgia, and three grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Ella Schultz of San Leandro, California, and one brother, Ben Palas of Monona, survive him.
