Waukon, Ia.- Special: Otto A. Helming, well known Allamakee county resident and a former state representative from Allamakee County, died at the family home in West Waukon Monday. He had been in ill health for a number of years and was unable to leave his home for some time.
Mr. Helming was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Helming, early residents of Allamakee county. He was borm March 9, 1868, on a farm in Ludlow township, one of a family of five children. He was reared upon the home farm, attended the rural schools and later Waukon college.
After the death of his father he and his brother, Charles, took over the management of the farm where their Percheron horses, Chester White hogs and Aberdeen Angus cattle were known throughout the country. He was one of the promoters of the Ludlow Cooperative Creamery. He was an active member of the republican party, and in 1912 was elected member of the state house of representatives and served for several years.
On November 12, 1902 he was parried to Miss Lena Whittenberger at Richfield, Wis., who survives him, with two daughters, Mrs. Lincoln Zarub of Cedar Rapids and Miss Florence, and instructor in the Waukon Public Schools. He also leaves one grandchild. He was a member of the Ludlow Presbyterian Church.
