Sevena (Sawvelle) Schutta

Funeral services for Sevena Schutta were held Monday, April 12, 1982 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. David R. Nelson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Home of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Sevena Louise Schutta, daughter of John and Mary (Muchow) Sawvelle, was born Oct. 23, 1895 at Waukon, Iowa. She died April 9, 1982 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville.

She was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Oct. 21, 1898 by the Rev. Emil Bockelman and was confirmed there in 1923. As a small child she had moved to Postville with her widowed mother, a sister, Elizabeth and a brother, John.

She attended the Postville Schools and graduated in the class of 1913. For four years she taught at the South Grove School. On Sept. 4, 1918 she was married to Herman H. [this should be F.] Schutta. To this union a son was born. They lived most of their lives in Postville except for six years when they moved to Chippewa Falls, Wis. returning to Postville in 1936.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1958, a brother, John, and a sister, Elizabeth Provosnik.

Surviving are a son, Durwood, a daughter-in-law, Donna Schutta, both of Postville, a grandson, Joel of Austin, MN and a sister-in-law, Edith Sawvelle of West Union.

She was a member of the Senior Citizens of Postville and an Honor Member of the Lutheran Church Women
