Mrs. Emma Putnam, for many years a resident of this community, passed away last Friday at the Postville Community Hospital, where she had been brought a few days before. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the home of her son, L.F. Putnam, in this city and at 2:30 at the Community Presbyterian church with the Rev. J. Ian Fraser officiating. Interment was made in Postville cemetery.

As Emma Irene Dean she was born in Geneva, New York, on February 24, 1853, and sometime later came west. In 1871 she was married to Sureno D. Putnam of Postville and to them five children were born. Mr. Putnam passed away in 1899.

Of the children, Floyd died while in the service of his country during the World War in 1918 and Bertha passed away in 1928. Those surviving are Hattie Putnam Dresser of Emmett, Idaho and Ray and Lloyd Putnam of Postville.

Mrs. Putnam was a member of the Community Presbyterian church, having affiliated with it from the Congregational church which she joined with her husband in March 1872. Throughout her lifetime she was a faithful church attendant and always maintained her interest in her church.
