Funeral services for Arnold Schutte were held Tuesday, May 8, 1984 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Arnold William Schutte, son of Fred and Lena (Schroeder) Schutte, was born Oct. 10, 1902 in Grand Meadow Township. He died May 6, 1984 at Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, WI.
He was baptized Jan. 21, 1903 and confirmed Aug. 26, 1917. Arnold graduated from the Luana School and attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette for one year. He worked in Dubuque for a short time and then with Dan McNeil on the farm. In the 1920's he became associated with the Schutte Furniture Store and Funeral Home where he remained for over 50 years.
Arnold was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council, a 50 year member of the Fire Department and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Marcene and Rose Lee; two brothers, Emmet ("Pete") and Louis; and a granddaughter, Janet Lange.
Surviving besides his wife, Ruth, are two daughters, Darlene (Mrs. Bennett Lange), Postville and Lavon (Mrs. Allyn Wirkler) Burnsville, MN; six grandchildren, Jeffery Lange, Mrs. Arnold (Julie) Dahlen, Steven Lange, Joni Lange, Scott Wirkler and Barbara Wirkler; six great-grandchildren, Jason and Brandi Lange, Pasha and Aron Dahlen, and Matthew and Candice Lange; a brother, Eldo, and a sister, Cecil (Mrs. Eldo Gericke), both of Postville.
