George P. Hartley Funeral Held Today
The death of George P. Hartley, retired farmer of the Waukon area, occurred Sunday evening at the Veterans Memorial Hospital after several months of ill health. Funeral services were held on Wednesday of this week, at 2:00 p.m. from Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member, Interment was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Rev. Wm. Tjaden officiated at the service.
Mr. Hartley was born in French Creek township, rural Church, on September 28, 1892. He was married on April 22, 1914 at Lansing, Iowa to Miss Grace Rowe. They farmed in French Creek township until 1940 when they became residents of Postville where he was in the implement business. They moved to Waukon in 1951, which place has since been their home. He served as Allamakee County Supervisor for two terms, 1943 through 1949, and at the time of his death was a member of the board of directors of the Winneshiek Mutual Insurance Association, Decorah.
He had become a member of the Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church when he was a young man and had served as Elder and Trustee.
He is survived by his wife, sons Grant, Waukon, and Robert, rural Lansing; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One brother Sidney Hartley of Dubuque and two sisters, Mrs. H. A. Mosher (Maenora), Ft. Meyer, Fla., and Miss Helen S. Hartley, Stockton, California.
The pallbearers were grandsons, John, George, Glenn, Robert C. (Jr.) Hartley and two nephews, Lester Hartley, Dubuque and Arnold Rowe, Le Roy, Minn.
Martin Bros. Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
