Helen Beardmore
Helen M. Beardmore, 81, of rural Lansing, died Feb. 10 at Thornton Manor Care Center, Lansing, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at Martin Funeral Home, Waukon, with the Rev. Richard N. Eick officiating. Burial took place in Lansing Ridge Cemetery, rural Lansing.
Helen Marie Beardmore was born July 20, 1918, on the Lansing-area farm of parents Emil L. and Amanda (Johnson) Fritz. She was baptized and confirmed in Churchtown and attended the rural Lycurgus School. On August 5, 1936, Helen married Howard S. Beardmore in Churchtown. Helen worked at Veterans Memorial Hospital and the Good Samaritan Center of Waukon. She and Howard also owned and operated The Beardmore Cafe in New Albin until 1973, when they retired. She lived in rural Lansing for many years prior to her 1988 move to Waukon.
Helen was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Waukon, and its Women's Fellowship. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, making tablecloths and doilies. She was also fond of needlework. Helen liked music and loved to go dancing with Howard. She also enjoyed reading western novels and playing euchre.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents and husband Howard; a son, Terry; grandsons Gary Crane and Ethan Beardmore; granddaughter Rosemary Beardmore; and son-in-law James Crane. Survivors include her daughter, Marian Crane, Lansing; son Dale (Glenda) Beardmore, Mesquite, TX; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; uncles Willard and Harold Fritz and Sam Johnson; and a cousin, Bernice Clark.Source: clipping from Eloise Meyer's collection at the Allamakee Historical Society in Waukon.
