Funeral services for Elmer F. Shafer, 72, Waukon, were held Friday, Sept. 16, 1:30 p.m. at Zalmona Presbyterian Church. Rev. James Jacobson officiated. Interment was in Zalmona Cemetery. Martin's Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Elmer F. Shafer, son of Paul Shafer and Elsie Klein Shafer was born December 5, 1915 in Ludlow Township, Allamakee County. He received his education in Ludlow Township rural schools.
He married Eunice Kruger November 10, 1938 at the Zalmona parsonage, rural Waukon. He lived in Waukon from 1938 to 1941; worked at a defense plant in Burlington, 1941-1943 and the couple farmed until 1983.
He was a member of Zalmona Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder for 6 years and a deacon for 6 years. He was also a Farm Bureau member and NFO Member.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice; daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Sandra) Fish and Jane Miene, both of Waukon; a sister, Norma Kruger, Waukon; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mark Palmer, Dan Brown, James Kruger, Ben Fiet, Vern Cuvelier and Scott Miene. Honorary pallbearers: Debra Palmer, Wanda Brown, Vickie Miene, Karrie Miene.
