Carl Shafer (sic), a longtime resident of this locality was accidentally burned due to a kerosene explosion while starting a fire at his home Thursday night. He was taken to Postville Hospital where he passed away the following day.
He is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters.He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Schaffer (sic), early settlers of Ludlow township, where he was born 61 years ago, and spent his life in that vicinity.
His wife, who survives, was Martha Goeke. There are three daughters and a son, Mrs. Roy Luebka (Viola), Postville, Mrs. Charles Klocke (Gladys), Waukon, and Ruth and Reuben Shafer (sic) at home. A son Ben preceded him in death.
Also living are two sisters and two brothers, all residing in Ludlow. They are Paul and Ed Schaffer (sic), Mrs. Paul Fiet and Mrs. August Held.
Funeral services were held Monday.
