Mass of Christian Burial services for Thomas C. Darling, age 84, of New Albin, Iowa were held on Friday, September 7, 2012 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin, Iowa. The Rev. John Moser was the Celebrant. Burial followed in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the New Albin VFW #5603.

Thomas C. Darling died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Thornton Manor, Lansing, Iowa. Tom was born on July 12, 1928 in Jefferson, Minnesota, the son of Lysander and Clara (Myer) Darling. He attended school in New Albin through the tenth grade. He served with the United States Army in Korea and was awarded a purple heart from injuries sustained in combat. Tom was united in marriage with Elizabeth "Betty" Meyer on June 13, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Galesville, Wisconsin. She preceded him in death on November 21, 1995. They were the parents of five children.

Tom worked as a part-time police officer in New Albin. He was a welder for Trane Company in LaCrosse, Wisconsin for thirty-seven and a half years. He was also a volunteer firefighter. After his retirement in 1990, he worked for five years at Walmart as a greeter. Tom enjoyed hunting, baseball, and being an avid Kee High fan, fishing, the Chicago Cubs, and he enjoyed helping his wife with the daycare kids.

Thomas C. Darling is survived by his children: Daria Darling of New Albin, Douglas (Karen) Darling of New Albin, Debra Darling of Waukon, Iowa, Dina (Scott) Spieker of Cresco,Iowa, and Daniel Darling of New Albin; his "adopted" daycare grandkids; and two brothers Robert (Mary) Darling of Strawberry Point, Iowa and Elton Darling of New Albin.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife Betty; his parents; his brothers Vernon, Douglas "John", and Melvin "Dag"; his sisters Lillian in infancy, Margareta "Bunny", Elsie, Virginia, Vivian, and Belva; and his daughter Debra's special friend Paul Moritz.
