Funeral services were held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Elgin Lutheran Church in Elgin, Iowa for Harvey W. Paulsen, age 95, of Elgin who died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Stoney Brook Village in West Union, Iowa. Burial was in the Elgin Cemetery in Elgin, Iowa.

Harvey was born on August 4, 1916 on a farm one mile south of the Luana School in Clayton County, Iowa to Ernst and Alma (Funk) Paulsen. He was baptized at the Luana Lutheran Church and confirmed in 1931 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. He attended the Luana Consolidated School until the third grade and moved to Postville where he attended the South Grove Country School.

Harvey farmed with his parents until 1946. At that time he went to work at the John Falb & Sons Auto Dealership as a service manager for the next 35 years, retiring in 1978. Harvey was united in marriage to Marjorie (Reierson) Reed on June 20, 1964 at the Elgin Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing up north, woodworking, making clocks, jewelry boxes, hutches, and wood carving.

Harvey is survived by his two children: Roger (Cheryl) Reed of Decorah, Iowa and Linda (Mark) Fasse of Urbandale, Iowa; five grandchildren Erica (Cory) Fels of Castalia, Iowa, Nathan (Megan)Reed of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Hillary Reed (Jacob Waddle) of Dubuque, Iowa, Ben (Monica) Fasse of Grimes, Iowa, and Bradley (Kaarin) Fasse also of Grimes; five great-grandchildren Dalton Fels, Tyler Fels, Hannah Fasse, Emma Fasse,and Kennedy Fasse; nieces Linda Baldwin, Twila Wubben, and nephews David Horstman and Lee Horstman.

Harvey was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie; his parents; two brothers Harold Paulsen and Henry Paulsen; two sisters Hazel Pape and Hilda Horstman; nephew Lorenz Jr. "Buddy" Pape, and niece Lorna Ruckdaschel.
