Mrs. HOWARD (Viola Selma Moen) SNITKER 1924-1991
Viola Selma Snitker, 66, of Waukon, died January 3 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon. Funeral services were held at Salem United Church of Christ, rural Waukon, January 5, 1991, 1:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. Elsa Marsland officiated. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery. Martin's Funeral Home, Waukon, was in charge of arrangements.
Viola Selma Snitker, daughter of E. Julius Moen and Caroline Hagen Moen was born March 6, 1924 on her parents' farm in rural Allamakee County. She grew up in the Glenwood area and attended rural Allamakee County Schools. She was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church. She married Howard Snitker at the Glenwood Lutheran Church parsonage, rural Decorah on February 15, 1950. They lived in Ludlow Township where they farmed the past 40 years. She was organist at Salem Church for many years. She also played organ, piano, keyboard, accordion and violin as a volunteer at area nursing homes, senior citizens centers, and other community activities. She was a member of a band the "Hillbilly Rhythm Boys" that played for many area weddings in the past.
Preceding her in death were sisters, Myrtle Leyse, Ruby Pladsen, Evelyn Lippe, Lillian Brown and Joyce Baumgartner; brothers, Carl Moen and Arthur Moen. Surviving are: 2 sons, Allan "Greg" Snitker, Postville, Gaylen Snitker, Waukon and a daughter, Glenda Green (Mrs. Lawrence) of Hampton; and 2 grandchildren.
Pallbearers: Arden Hanson, Ozzie Quandahl, Roger Hesse, Curtis Lippe, Dennis Baumgartner, Arlyn Pladsen.
Honorary Pallbearers: Sharon Brown, Anna Mae Curtin, Betty Opfer, Harriet Qualey.
