Mrs. Henry Snitker, 72, a resident of the Ludlow and Postville communities most of her lifetime, passed away Monday, December 30, 1946, in her home in this city following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at the late home in Postville at one o'clock last Thursday afternoon and at two o'clock in the Salem Reformed church in Ludlow, with the Rev. Edmond M. DeBuhr officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Snitker was born as Augusta Klepper, the daughter of Simon and Louise Klepper, December 13, 1874, in Lippe Detmold, Germany. On March 16, 1879, she came with her parents to the United States, locating in Ludlow township where she attended the schools and grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Henry Snitker on February 28, 1895, and the couple made their home on a farm in Ludlow township until retiring to move to Postville ten years ago.
Mrs. Snitker is survived by her husband and the following children: Two sons, Dan, Jr., of Ludlow, and Leo of Decorah; four daughters, Annie, Mrs. Simon Hesse, Mabel, Mrs. Elmer Winke, Leona, Mrs. Edwin Duvel, all of near Waukon, and Gertrude who lives at home. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, Will Klepper of Frankville and Theodore Klepper of Prairie du Sac, Wis., and one sister, Mrs. Louise Hansmeier of Ludlow. One son, Arthur, who farmed near Granger, Minn., passed away suddenly in Cresco a week before his mother.
