Funeral services for Verne Stover of Martelle were held Saturday, March 3, 1990 at the Martelle Methodist Church. The Rev. Brown Garlock officiated. Burial was in Norwich Cemetery. Masonic services were conducted Friday evening at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa.
Verne Stover, 70, died Feb. 28, 1990 at Anamosa Community Hospital. Mr. Stover, a former Postville resident and REC employee, was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Bertie Waters.
Verne Hale Stover was born Aug. 14, 1919 at Woodburn, the son of Fred Lee Stover and Golda Mongar Stover. Before retirement he was employed by Maquoketa Valley R. E. C. for over 30 years. He was a member of the Martelle Methodist Church, the Masons and a Past Master of the Lodge. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was also a member of the Shriners.
He married Gladys Ewing Oct. 4, 1944 at Caledonia, MN. They had 4 children. Since 1957 they have made their home in Martelle. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Gladys; one daughter, Marsha Fairbanks of Anamosa; 3 sons, Mark, Judson and Jason Stover, all of Martelle; 2 brothers, Max Stover of Houston, TX and Vance Stover of Stewartville, MN and 8 grandchildren.
Casket bearers were Mark Stover, Judson Stover, Jayson Stover, Gerald Hill, Kim R. Olson and Rick Hall.
