Arthur William Swenson, son of Evan and Eliza McWilliams Swenson, was born November 24, 1875, one and one-half miles north of Postville. He was the oldest of 12 children, six girls and six boys. He passed away Monday, January 11, 1965 at the Community Memorial Hospital, at the age of 89 years, one month, and 16 days.
On November 24, 1898 Arthur Swenson was married to Nina E. Harris at the home of the bride's parents in Post township.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Florence (Mrs. Elrie Ruckdaschel); three sons, Hall L. of Postville, Roland E. of Park Ridge, Illinois, and George W. of Cedar Rapids; four sisters, Maria (Mrs. Ira Smith) of Postville, Kate (Mrs. Jerome Van Allen) of Dallas, Texas, Ethyle (Mrs. W. George Wallace) of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Lillian (Mrs. J. Charles Harris) of Seattle, Washington; four brothers, Harry S. of Hampton, Minnesota, Frank L. of Snohomish, Washington, Hall L. of Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, and Allison E. of Cleveland, Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Swenson had five children, 11 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren.
Arthur Swenson was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Doris; two sisters, Alma Nicolay and Amy Davenport; and one brother John.
He lived on his present location for 65 years. His entire life wsa spent as a farmer and cattle feeder. Some time was spent in limestone quarry work. He was a member of the United Brethren Church. Funeral services were held at the Community Presbyterian Church on Thursday, November 14, 1965, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Walter T. Martin in charge of the services. Interment in Minert cemetery.
