Anton Swenson was born near Christiania, Norway, Feb. 25, 1842. He came to America in 1870 and has lived in Post township nearly fifty years.
He was married to Anna Halvorson of Clermont in 1880. To this union 5 children were born, Elmer, living at Myron; Mrs. Josephine Krousie, near Forest Mills; Robert and Gilbert. Mrs. Swenson died in 1890. There also survive him 2 brothers, Seward living in Franklin twp. and Evan at Postville.
Mr. Swenson was an unusually stong man, and of strong constitution and practically never had a sick day in his life. Two years ago, however, he was overcome by heat while working on the road and his mind began gradually to fail him. He was taken to the State Hospital at Independence for treatment Oct. 4, last, and died there Oct. 23, 1920, aged 78 years, 7 months and 28 days.
He was a man of kindly heart and a neighbor said of him, "He never had an enemy in his life." The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Bethel Church, Rev. L.W. Wiltberger officiating. Interment at the Smith cemetery.
