The demise of Mrs. Michael Thornton, mention of whose illness appeared in these columns several times lately, took place at the family home in Lafayette township Thursday morning last. The immediate cause of death was the removal of a goiter at St. Francis hospital, LaCross, three weeks ago. She rallied sufficiently to be brought home but all that medical skill and loving care could do to save her proved unavailing. Deceased maiden name was Catharine O’Boyle. She was born in county Mayo, Ireland, in 1846 and came to this country in 1854. She married Michael Thornton in 1861 and had she lived till the coming May they would have been able to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. Lafayette township was her home all these years and there she was revered and respected by all. Twelve children were born to them, five of whom preceded her to the grave. Those living are: Mrs. Wm. Manton, Lafayette, Mrs. P. J. Boyle of Sheldon N.D.; M. J. Thornton, Maple Creek, Canada; Mrs. M. D. Guider, Patrick and Mrs. Thos. Murphy of Lafayette township and all here with her with the exception of Michael who could not reach here in time. The aged husband and sorrowing relatives have the heart felt sympathy of many friends in their great bereavement. Truly a good woman has gone to her reward. Funeral Saturday morning from Wexford church Father Laffan celebrating a Requiem Mass for the happy repose of her soul and paying deserved tribute to her memory.
