Rites Held For Mrs. John Weihe
Mrs. John C. Weihe, nee Caroline Charlotte Meyer, the daughter of William Meyer and his wife Louise Meyer, was born at National, Clayton County, Iowa on August 26, 1874. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church near National and was confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa on April 3, 1887. She died at the Community Memorial Hospital on August 5, 1963, at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and nine days, following a prolonged illness.
She moved with her family from near National to Henderson Prairie in 1877 and attended the Henderson Prairie school. She was married to John C. Weihe on March 29, 1898. Following their marriage they farmed near Postville throughout the period of their life together. After her husband's death, she moved to town in 1940. There were six children born to this union.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Florence, at the age of three months; six brothers, William of Castalia, Henry, Charles and Arthur of Postville and two in infancy; and two sisters, Minnie, Mrs. Fred Brandt of Postville and Anna, Mrs. Fred Kuhse of Postville.
She is survived by four sons, Clarence, at home, the Rev. LeRoy Weihe of Nachusa, Illinois, Orville of Cedar Rapids, and the Rev. Clifton Weihe of San Fernando, California; one daughter, Viola, Mrs. Cloy F. Schultz of Postville; one sister, Bertha, Mrs. Carl Schroeder of Postville; eight grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She was an active member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church of Postville and a life member of the Lutheran Church Women. Throughout her life she was active in the Farm Bureau and in many other community activities
Funeral services were held August 8, 1:30 p.m., at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, the Rev. C. E. Witt in charge. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
