Rites set for Tillie Walsh

Matilda (Tillie) Walsh, 93, of Waukon, died August 26, 1985 at Northgate Manor nursing home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 1985, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with burial in the Lycurgus cemetery. She is survived by nine children: Lucille Garvik and Marie Vaaler of LaCrosse, Wis.; Margaret Walsh of Waukon; Dorothy Ansenson of LaCrosse, Wis.; Mrs. Paul (Lorraine) Mann and Mrs. Leo (Jeannie) O'Malley, both of Webster City; Mrs. Harold (Lois) Hanson, Kenneth and Jack Walsh, all of Dubuque; 27 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great- great grandchildren; and three sisters, Bessie Olson of Waukon and Gretta Schlueter and Stella Ryan, both of Minneapolis. Friends may call at the Hanson funeral home from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Matilda "Tillie" Walsh was born February 18, 1892 in Lansing, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Margaret (Sweeney) Waldron. She attended local schools and married Joseph T. Walsh on May 9, 1911 in Waukon, Iowa. They farmed near the Waukon and Lycurgus areas of Allamakee County, Iowa. She was particularly fond of music and dancing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Francis Walsh, and two brothers, James "Jim" Waldron and Frank Waldron. Serving as pallbearers were Jim Vaaler, Billy Seiter, Rick Walsh, Ron Hanson, John O'Malley, Gary Mann, Randy Hanson, and Bob Vaaler.

~Note: According to the "WALDRON FAMILY COOKBOOK", printed in 1977, William and Margaret (Sweeney) Waldron were the parents of 7 children: Mary, who died at the age of 9, Elizabeth was Mrs. Leo Olson, Matilda Walsh, James Waldron who married Amanda Bodendorfer, Stella was Mrs. James Ryan, Margaret was Mrs. William Sleuter or Schuleter which was listed in the obituary, and John Francis "Frank" Waldron who married Gladys Carpenter.
