Robert Boese, Jr., aged 14 years, passed away last Friday night at 8:15 o'clock following an accident while playing with two schoolmates.

The boys had been playing with a 22-calibre rifle when in handling the gun it was accidentally discharged, the bullet striking and inflicting a fatal wound above the Boese boy's left eye.

Deputy Sheriff Leschensky and Coroner Bresnahan of Waukon were called here and upon investigation declared the shooting purely accidental and decided no inquest was necessary.

Robert was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boese and was born December 18, 1922. He was a freshman in Postville High School, being an honor student. Last year he was Postville's representative at the county spelling contest and especially was he adept in literary work.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran church on Monday afternoon with the Rev. R.B. Garten officiating. The Freshman class of the public schools attended the services in a body, officiating as pall bearers, flower carriers and composed the choir at the funeral; many members of the school faculty also attended the funeral and during the services Supt. R.J. Carroll paid him tribute.

Interment was made in the Postville cemetery.

Robert is survived by his parents, two sisters and five brothers, who have the sympathy of all in their time of sorrow.
