Leona A. Sadler Berg, age 86, of Elgin, Illinois, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2003, in her home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 6 at Laird Funeral Home in Elgin, with Chaplain Stan DeVries officiating. Burial was in Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery, Elgin, Illinois.

Leona was born April 3, 1917 in Lakeville, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Amanda Wiess. She had been a resident of Elgin since 1964. She was employed as a cook at St. Edward High School, Elgin, and the convent at St. Edward High School before retiring.

Survivors include two daughters, Marceline (Gary)Gough of McHenry, Illinois and Karthryn (Larry) Lippincott of Virginia Beach, Virginia; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister Juliet Pigneri of Des Moines, Iowa; and one daughter-in-law Cynthia Sadler of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Leona was preceded in death by her husbands, Forrest Sadler in 1964 and Louis P. Berg in 1999; one son, Richard Sadler; one sister, Madeline Johnson; and one brother John Weiss (sic)*.
*Not sure if that was a spelling error or if John changed the spelling. I have also seen the family surname listed as Weis.

Since there did not appear to be a connection to Allamakee County, I did some tracking to determine that Leona's first husband was Forrest John Sadler who was born in Union City Township, Allamakee County,Iowa to Edward James Sadler and Rose Wild. Forrest and his parents are both buried in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Allamakee County. The obituary for Forrest is on this site and it stated that Leona was from the Spring Grove, Houston County, Minnesota area. It also appeared that Forrest and the family had moved around quite a bit due to his occupation. I could not find if her second husband, Louis P. Berg, had a connection to Allamakee County, Iowa.

Richard married Cynthia L. "Cindy" Coughlos who was born May 16, 1947 in Elgin, Illinois and died on January 27, 2009 in Virginia Beach, Virginia after battling Multiple Sclerosis. Richard and Cynthia are both buried in the Princess Ann Memorial Park Cemetery in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
They had one child:
Christine Sadler who married Stephen Clifford. They had four children Kenneth, Katheryn, William, and Alyssa.
